The Modified Latero-Coronally-Positioned Flap After Excision Of Peripheral Giant Cell Granuloma
نویسندگان
چکیده
The peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) is a reactive lesion caused by trauma or irritation. The lesions can vary in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. Surgical excision is the treatment to be carried out for PGCG. This case report describes the clinical and histopathological findings of PGCG diagnosed in the maxilla of a 24-year-old female, and the treatment of a gingival defect, which occurred following the excision of the lesion, by means of a modified latero-coronally positioned flap. In the reevaluation 6 weeks postoperatively, a stable keratinized cervical margin could be seen in the transplantation site with 1 mm recession. The donor site showed no recession. The modified latero-coronally-positioned flap technique has been suggested as a surgical solution after removal of PGCG to minimize patient discomfort and the loss of precious tissues.

Background: Gingival overgrowth is a common clinical finding that most often represents reactive hyperplasia as a result of inflammatory gingival disease related to dental plaque. Irritation fibroma (IF), pyogenic granuloma (PG), peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), and peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) are non-neoplastic enlargements of the gingiva that are categorized as reactive hyperpla...

متن کاملA Comparative Immunohistochemical Study of CD105 Expression in Peripheral and Central Giant Cell Granuloma
Introduction: Despite similar histopathological features, peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) and central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) differ in their biological behavior. PGCG and CGCG are hemorrhagic/vascular lesions, clinically and microscopically. Angiogenesis is necessary for the growth and development of lesions and affects their clinical behavior. CD105 is a useful vascular marker for...
